MORTGAGE CORNER
What does June have in store for mortgage rates?
Mortgage rates were expected to have moved lower by now this year, but have been stubbornly high. However, June could be a turning point where the door opens for rates to move lower the second half of the year. It will depend on if the labor data that is released the first week of June shows a softening labor market with increased unemployment, as we saw in May, as well as how the Fed meeting goes on June 12th.
We also can't forget the inflation data that will come out the second week of June, which will hopefully show that inflation is once again moving lower after stalling the first part of this year.
So, although no one has a crystal ball, we do know that there are some events this month that could at least show progress for mortgage rates, setting us up to see them finally move lower as we head into the rest of the year.
