Team Pumpkin Spice believes absolutely everything can be improved with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a ridiculous amount of whipped cream. Coffee? Obviously. Cookies? Sure. Candles? Definitely. Motor oil? Someone at Starbucks is probably working on it.

 

Team Apple Cider prefers the classics: crisp apples, cool evenings, maybe a cinnamon stick... and absolutely no need to turn every food in the grocery store orange.

Could the Fed hike rates in September, and what does that mean for mortgage rates?

A Fed rate hike in September seemed pretty unlikely just a few weeks ago, but that has changed quickly. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and other Fed members have taken a tougher stance on inflation, and rising oil prices are adding to concerns that inflation could remain stubborn. Markets are now taking the possibility of a September Fed rate hike seriously.

 

That shift is also a big reason mortgage rates have moved higher recently. The Fed doesn’t directly set mortgage rates, but markets move ahead of the Fed, and mortgage rates have already started pricing in the possibility of a hike. However, between oil prices, inflation, and the upcoming jobs data, there’s a lot that could change before the Fed meets later this month.
